Not here so much for its beer selection but for its location: right on the Grote Markt. A good place for an early bolleke of De Koninck, especially in nice weather. The name roughly translates to "rascal," "scamp," or "naughty boy" etc.

Classic brown cafe right on the Grote Markt. Fred always preferred Den Bengel to Den Engel next door, but having visited both on the same morning in October 2025 I have to say my slight preference is for Den Engel. That said, Den Bengel is a lovely brown cafe and the bolleke is excellent. Service is very friendly too.
