Fred's Top Picks

My 'Top Picks' are those pubs I always make an effort to visit when I am in Antwerp.

Fred lives in Los Angeles but travels often to Antwerp.. You can follow him on twitter as @fredwaltman or read his twitter feed below

Note that we regularly update what constitutes a top pick so places can be relegated from the list if their beer range dips or there are other significant changes.

Beer Lovers Bar A Fred top pick  WiFi available Closed Tuesday New entry in the Guide in 2016

New, modern craft beer bar with an interesting selection of taps. Opened June 2016.

Cozy corner pub with good food. Beer list seems to be constantly improving, with a few you don't see too often in Antwerp.

Kulminator A Fred top pick  Closed Sunday Closed Monday Open 11am or earlier

Massive beer selection including a large selection of aged beers and beers from closed breweries. Literally a "Mom and Pop" operation, service can be a bit slow when they are crowded.

Honorable Mention

A pub that receives an “Honorable Mention’ is a pub that is not quite a ‘Top Pick’ but still is very much worth a visit.

Cafe Pardaf  Fred Honorable Mention WiFi available Closed Monday

Improved tap list and an impressive bottle list. Also a great selection of bag-in-the-box lambics.

Oud Arsenaal  Fred Honorable Mention Closed Monday Closed Tuesday Open 11am or earlier

New place (May 2018) with a warehouse/industrial vibe. At the back of a warehouse/industrial complex. The entrance in thru what looks like a garage on Lamorinierestraat. Now brewing beers on site.

Traditional Antwerp brown cafe that had declined over the years and the closed. Reopened with more focus on beer and getting better with each visit.

Zeezicht  Fred Honorable Mention WiFi available Serves food Live Music New entry in the Guide in 2018

Neighborhood cafe with some interesting beers on tap and a decent bottle list.
